Key Emissions Insights
Key highlights from the country’s historical emissions (as of 2021)
Land Use Change And Forestry
This sector includes activities that alter the use of land, such as deforestation, afforestation, reforestation, and forest degradation. These activities impact carbon sequestration—the process by which forests absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
Changes Over Time:
- From 1990 to 2002, emissions remained relatively stable.
- A significant increase is noted post-2000, peaking around 2010.
- A slight decline is observed from 2011 onwards, indicating potential improvements in land-use practices or reforestation efforts.
Agriculture
Emissions from this sector arise from various agricultural activities, including livestock management, rice production, soil management, and the use of synthetic fertilisers.
Changes Over Time:
- Emissions remained stable from 1990 to 2002.
- A gradual increase is observed from 2002 onwards, reflecting intensified agricultural activities or expanded agricultural land.

Future Emissions Pathways
The modelled projections are based on the US Energy Protection Agency (EPA) Non-CO2 Greenhouse Gas Data Tool. Emission Projections were generated using a combination of country-reported inventory data supplemented with EPA-estimated calculations consistent with inventory guidelines of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The EPA tool projected emissions through 2050. The economic growth was modeled using SSP 2 (Business As Usual Scenario) for the future projections.
